First Generation - One of Many

Today We Talk All About STEM! Are You Excited Yet?

STEM, you either love it or you hate it! But not everyone who works in the STEM field started off there. The STEM field will surprise you, and open your perspective on how versatile and satisfying the majors can be! Our guests discuss their journey on how they found their passion for their profession and the challenges they faced as first-generation students within the STEM field and how they navigated to success!

Our Guests

Robin Donatello

Robin is a Chico local and Chico State alum. After a stint in Los Angeles for graduate school in Biostatistics, she came back to Chico to join the Math & Stats department in order to train the next generation of Statisticians and Data Scientists. When she’s not on campus, she’s growing food for her family in her home garden, out adventuring with her dogs in upper park, or getting some reading & game time in.

Alberto Rosales

Alberto Rosales is a first-generation college student. He is in his last year at Chico State where he is studying mechatronics engineering. He will be graduating this spring 2021 semester. While on campus he worked as an Intern Advisor in the Educational Opportunity Program. Within his field of study he is extremely excited about automation engineering and electric vehicles.
