Land Acknowledgement
We acknowledge and are mindful that CSU, Chico stands on lands that were originally occupied by the first people of this area, and we recognize the Mechoopda and their distinctive spiritual relationship with this land and the waters that run through campus. We are humbled that our campus resides upon sacred lands that once sustained the Mechoopda people for centuries and continue to do so today.

I am joshuah; I am a twenty-sixth year member of Chico State. I have been a student, staff and faculty member during my time on campus. I have been called a “life-long” learner in and out of the classroom. I earned my BA in music, both my master’s (English and education), and to complete my formalized education, I earned my Ed.D in Educational Leadership from UC Davis. My research is focused on Multicultural Gender Studies, social and emotional learning, first-generation college students and relationships we have with music.
I moved to Chico not ever having even been to the town. After two years of floundering on Academic Probation, I found support from a professor who nurtured my understanding of education and encouraged me to do better. Shortly thereafter, I met my wife and we have been together since and are blessed to be the parents of an inspiring son and daughter.
Hey! My name is Teresa Hernandez and welcome to our page. I was born in Chico and raised both in Durham and Butte Valley for my K-12 years. I attended Durham Unified School District until I graduated and went to San Francisco State University for my undergraduate and graduate work. I majored in Latino/a studies and minored in race and resistance studies. I also earned my Master’s degree in education with a concentration in equity and social justice at SFSU as well in 2018. I am glad to be home and working within my community and I hope you find this podcast as a resource!
