Land Acknowledgement
We acknowledge and are mindful that CSU, Chico stands on lands that were originally occupied by the first people of this area, and we recognize the Mechoopda and their distinctive spiritual relationship with this land and the waters that run through campus. We are humbled that our campus resides upon sacred lands that once sustained the Mechoopda people for centuries and continue to do so today.

As a result, from year to year and day to day, we are presented opportunities to learn more about ourselves and others as well as the experiences that define the ways we think, feel, and believe. Join us on episode 25 as we talk about the intersection of first generation and LGBT / GSM.
Alondra is a poet, essayist, and alumni of Chico State’s MA in English program. While they are proud of all their publications, The Audacity to Live (originally published in The Nasional) is an essay dear to their heart which details their struggles with navigating higher education as a queer person of color and child of immigrants. They hope to encourage more queer Latinx students to pursue higher education and learn how to use their creative voices in the future as an instructor of creative writing.
Dani is a Shasta College graduate and a soon to be Chico State graduate. They’ve moved 31 times and counting, from Mount Shasta to Orange County, to the Bay Area and all the way back to Norcal. They even took a souvenir from middle school with them to college– their best friend now turned fiancée! During their tour around California, they found a deep love and appreciation for new faces and cultures. They acquired their certificate to teach English abroad and are excited to continue their adventures in places like South Korea and Spain!
