We Live – Therefore We Can Learn

Part of who we are, at this moment, is because of where we come from and who we have come with. However, from this moment forward, who we are going to be will be altered by where we go and who we go with. On this episode we here from three women about their journeys to and through education. As they continue to learn, live, and grow they share about the Healing Centered framework at the core of the work they do at Chico State’s Cross Cultural Leadership Center where people can go to feel respected, connected, and affirmed.

Our Guests

Anna Marquez 

Anna is a fourth year Psychology student from El Centro, CA. She is a transfer student from Imperial Valley College and is a first-generation Latina woman. Anna also works as a Paraprofessional at the Cross Cultural Leadership Center where she facilitates and organizes programs for students. Anna’s passions are serving others and being involved in her communities.

Nidhi Bhutani

Nidhi Bhutani was born in Chandigarh, India, in 1997, and moved to Sacramento, California at the age of 2. She is currently a senior at Chico State and is pursuing a degree in Mathematics, Statistics. Although she has a love for numbers, she enjoys writing and performing poetry, as well as other means of artistic expression. She believes untold stories still need to be heard and loves to encourage self-advocacy and growth. 

Jameli Balli

Jamile is a first-generation alum, low-income student and the daughter of a farm worker. She holds two masters’ degrees from Stanislaus State in English Lit and another from San Diego State University in Educational Counseling. Her passion is student success and student equity, especially for first-gen, under-represented students. She’s got a wonderful partner named, Rob and a cat called Sir Bigs a Lot.
