On this very special episode, we hear from two guests: Deana Waintraub Stafford and Claude Taylor, who share with us the efforts they are involved with to support first-generation students and families across the nation. Get to know who these change makers are and the how they are nurturing the development of a much needed community across the nation in higher education.
Deana serves as director with the Center for First-generation Student Success at NASPA Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education, she is also responsible for the Center’s external presence including marketing and communication strategy, and virtual professional development offerings, the nation’s first recognition program First-gen Forward, and the National First-Generation College Celebration in partnership with the Council for Opportunity in Education. Deana has over 10 years of experience in higher education within Academic and Student Affairs and Athletics and is deeply passionate about promoting student success.
Claude serves as Director for Academic Transition and Inclusion at Monmouth University in New Jersey and is a Lecturer in the Department of Communication. Claude leads the campus-wide initiative First to Fly: First Generation at Monmouth designed to offer academic, social, and personal support for students who identify as a first-generation.
